Best Value welcomed by 84 per cent of councils

The majority of Welsh local authorities found Best Value
planning useful but challenging, a review by the Audit Commission
    reveals.

The report, published last week as a supplement to October’s
A Step in the Right Direction: Lessons from Best Value Performance
    Plans
, finds that 84 per cent of local authorities in Wales
welcome Best Value, despite three-quarters experiencing
difficulties collecting, collating and presenting information or
    establishing a Best Value culture.

Ninety-four per cent believe Best Value planning helps local
authorities to improve services, and 72 per cent think their
councils have been successful in achieving positive changes as a
    result of Best Value.
