Community Care Live

The annual two-day Community Care LIVE was held in May with 3,200 delegates attending both days and more than 100 exhibition stands.

Highlights included new social care minister Ivan Lewis telling delegates that the government might be persuaded to spend more money on social care.

Other highlights include:

•  Commission for Social Care Inspection chair Denise Platt saying that police, GPs and education are still failing in their responsibilities to children. Many of these agencies believe that thy discharge their duties to children by referring to social services.

• The Refugee Council’s Nancy Kelley calling on the government oto give an amnesty to asylum-seeking families who have been here fro more than three years.

• ADSS’s Andrew Webb questioning the impact of formal care on children’s lives

•  And Loiuse Casey the Respect tsar telling professionals to be more frthcoming in handing out parenting orders.
