Cambridgeshire County Council orders baby death review

Cambridgeshire County Council has ordered a serious case review into the death of a six-week old baby on a child protection plan.

The girl was taken from a GP surgery in Milton to Addenbrooke’s Hospital on Wednesday where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The baby’s mother was arrested following the incident.

Cambridgeshire police said they were investigating and treating the death as “unexplained” at this stage. The results of a post mortem examination are expected later today.

Police confirmed that one person had been arrested in connection with the baby’s death and was being detained under the Mental Health Act.

A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with the family and their friends at this difficult time. The police investigation is ongoing and we are currently supporting their work.

“The independently-chaired serious case review panel will consider all aspects of this case in detail and are commissioning a serious case review.”
