First drugs court to open in Glasgow

The first ‘drugs court’ in Scotland will be based in Glasgow and
will deal with at least 200 cases per year according to Iain Gray,
deputy justice minister. The court is due to be established in
Glasgow Sheriff Court, the busiest in Europe, by the end of the
year. Only drugs cases will be heard and the courts presided over
by specially trained sheriffs. At the end of two years,
consideration will be given to extending drugs courts throughout
Scotland.
