Charity chosen to run register

Child and family services charity Norwood Ravenswood has been
chosen by the government as the preferred bidder to run the new
Adoption Register for England and Wales.

The register, due to be launched in July, will tackle delays in
finding suitable adoptive families for children nationwide where a
local family cannot be found.

Health minister John Hutton said Norwood Ravenswood’s bid met
all the necessary specifications.

British Agencies for Adoption and Fostering said it was
disappointed that its joint bid with Adoption UK had not been
successful but looked forward to supporting the work of the
register.

Director of the Catholic Children Society (Westminster) Jim
Richards expressed surprise that BAAFdid not win the contract.
“They are the umbrella organisation that represents us all,” he
said.
