STAR RATING: 3/5
Run by: The Children’s Society’s STARS National
Initiative, a project for children affected by parental substance
misuse.
Who is it for? The 1.3 million children in the UK
who live with a parent or carer who uses drugs or alcohol, and
practitioners working with this group.
Highlight: The willingness to get down to the
nitty gritty, such as addressing fears children may about the
possibility of being taken into care and providing practitioners
with advice on difficult issues such as if a parent is refusing to
give consent for their children to attend services.
Other plus points include the separate sections for children and
young people which contain tailored information on drugs, their
effects, and where to get help.
Some of the site’s sections are not yet complete and some of the
downloadable training packs for professionals aren’t available yet.
The resolution of these issues will be the cherry on the top of
what is already an extremely useful site.
