We currently have a number of career opportunities within our adult services directorate to support the delivery of adult social care services to our community in the East Riding, where we advocate for people’s rights, best interests and social justice and help them to live happy and fulfilling lives.
The East Riding is a thriving county and remains a special place to live and work, with great transport links to Leeds, York and Hull. From Beverley to Bridlington, Howden to Hessle, be part of a team that offers you the freedom to shape the lives of our older population.
“Working in the adult services directorate in the role of a social worker is a vital one. Be in at the start of our new change management programme which is transforming the way that adult social care services are designed and delivered in the East Riding.” Lee Thompson, head of adult services
Adult social work is a challenging field, dealing with sensitive issues and difficulties for our older population, who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.
Be in at the start of our new change management programme, which is transforming the way that adult social care services are designed and delivered in the East Riding.
Our adult social care strategy, Your Life, Your Way, and vision are helping us to manage the expected increase in demand for adult social care in future years, while also improving our service to better meet the needs of local residents. It’s an exciting time to be at the start of this journey with us and new social workers will have the opportunity to set the standard in a developing and growing practice.
“Because we are part of England’s largest unitary authority there are so many opportunities to experience more when you join us.” Hannah, principal social worker
The East Riding has a variety of populations from economically challenged town centres to affluent market towns, seaside resorts and large rural areas, all which add to the diversity and challenges of the role as a social worker on a daily basis.
Not only will the East Riding offer you a beautiful commute, but because of where we are situated geographically, you will also have the opportunity to partner with a variety of diverse stakeholders. These include North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), East Riding CCG, Hull CCG, NE Lincs CCG, Humberside Police, South Yorkshire Police and partners across various mental health trusts, in addition to the Humber, Coast and Vale Partnership, plus many, many more key organisations across the voluntary, and community sector.
This brings about vast and unique opportunities for our social workers to gain experience of multidisciplinary working across different settings, enhancing their practice approach and leadership abilities.
“It is important for us that our social workers have manageable workloads, supportive and transparent management.” Hannah, principal social worker
“I’m fully enabled through mobile kit to work in a highly agile way at locations across the county.” Gayle, student social worker
Here in the East Riding we are committed to creating a healthy culture where social workers feel that they have a forum to share their views about the organisation and environment in which they work. We recognise that the pandemic has allowed our workforce to work in different ways and we can therefore offer a way of working that is flexible to support you and the needs of your own family and things that matter to you. We are happy to talk to you about our range of options before you submit your application form.
“Our most important asset is our staff, and if you join us we will invest heavily in your professional development.” Lee Thompson, head of adult services
We offer excellent training opportunities within an organisation that embraces a learning culture and promotes career advancement. We invest in our social workers and want to grow, and retain, our own.
We offer academic courses with the University of Hull and Lincoln to qualify in roles including practice educators, best interests assessors, approved mental health professionals, all paid for by the council.
Many social workers who have risen the ranks with us have come through the social work apprenticeship or Open University social work degree route and are retained by the service. It goes without saying that we pay and support your professional memberships.
“Working for the council means that you get a range of employee benefits, including a competitive salary, generous leave entitlement, a government pension scheme, access to our East Riding Rewards (which includes a variety of high street, dining and holiday discounts), health and wellbeing schemes, car lease and salary sacrifice schemes and contribution to mileage costs.” Jessica, senior social worker, adult services
